Plan For The Pacific Telecommunications Council Annual Conference With Us

Written by Jayne Miller | Dec 11, 2017 2:08:00 PM

It's that time again. Our team is packing for Honolulu and readying for the Pacific Telecommunications Council annual conference January 21-24, 2018.

Our own Mike Bisaha, Jon Hjembo, Tim Stronge, Stephan Beckert, Alan Mauldin, Mike Owings, and Rob Schult will be on the scene. And on Sunday, January 21, Mike Bisaha, Jon, and Tim will present their research and analysis on international networks.

This special workshop will feature the following presentations:

Where Networks Connect — Colocation and data centers have been among the strongest sectors in the international networks market. This presentation will explore recent developments in regional data center markets, expansion plans of major providers, consolidation, and trends in colocation service pricing.

Content Providers and Optical Illusions — Money from content providers such as Google Facebook, and Microsoft has injected over $1 billion in international transport, and their bandwidth requirements have helped prop up demand at a time when traffic growth has begun to lag. But which benefits brought by content providers are real, and which are illusory?

Pricing Limbo — Wholesale circuit and IP transit prices have been falling for years, but the pace varies widely, and can determine the difference between profits and losses for carriers. How are recent network investments, emerging market players, and the deployment of 100 Gbps technology affecting international prices? What markets are experiencing the biggest shifts and what is the outlook for bandwidth buyers and sellers?

Think you should be at this conference? We do, too. (It's Hawaii in January. How much convincing must we do?) Here are a few fast links that will be useful for planning:

If you're unable to make it to Hawaii, you can still follow PTC and TeleGeography on Twitter for news and notes from the conference. And be sure to check the TG blog for videos and recaps of the event later in January.
